Breville’s fanciest coffee machine yet just landed – here’s what it actually does

If your coffee routine swings from “just need caffeine” to “I should open a café,” Breville’s newest espresso machine might be your ideal match. The Oracle Dual Boiler has just landed in Australia – and yes, it’s as high-tech as it sounds.

Sitting at the top of Breville’s range (and with a price tag to match – it’s $4499 on Breville’s official site but you can find it for $4299 at The Good Guys), this machine is designed for anyone who wants café-level coffee without the daily barista bill. Whether you’re a push-button person or someone who loves to tweak every shot, the Oracle Dual Boiler covers both.

What does it actually do?

In short: a lot. The Oracle Dual Boiler is packed with features usually reserved for commercial machines. There’s a triple heating system for fast and consistent coffee, a huge 5.7-inch touchscreen and even Wi-Fi so you can turn the machine on from bed (if that’s your thing).

One of the biggest upgrades is the Auto Dial-In system, which adjusts your grind settings automatically after each espresso. If you’ve ever fiddled with grind size and ended up with either bitter sludge or a watery mess, this is genuinely useful.

There’s also an updated Auto MilQ wand with special settings for oat, soy and almond milk, so your flat white doesn’t suffer just because it’s dairy-free!

The left panel is a close-up of the machine's front, highlighting the digital touchscreen interface with a "Flat White" selection visible. The right panel shows the full machine on a countertop, with a coffee cup and saucer in front of it and a view of the bean hopper on top.
The Breville Oracle Dual Boiler gives you a premium coffee experience with its large touchscreen interface, auto-dial-in system and a range of customisable settings.

You can brew up to 15 different drinks, from the classics (latte, espresso, flat white) to more fun picks like iced lattes and espresso martinis. And if someone in your house likes to take the reins, there’s a manual mode that lets you control everything from pre-infusion to milk texturing.

Not to mention, the machine looks good. It has clean lines, subtle colours (think sea salt, brushed stainless steel and black truffle) and no clunky bits in sight. Though fair warning: it’s not small, so you’ll need dedicated bench space if you want to keep it out.

Is it worth the $4499 price tag?

That depends. If you’re the kind of person who loves barista-level coffee but you don’t want to spend 10 minutes fussing with grind size and milk temperature every morning, the Oracle Dual Boiler makes a lot of sense. It’s built for consistency and is easy to use, but still gives you room to experiment with manual controls if you want to.

For context, if you’re buying two takeaway coffees a day at around $5 each, you’re looking at $3650 a year. The maths might actually work in your favour, eventually! That said, it’s not exactly an impulse buy.
